Our Story

Still I Rise Diversity Storytelling was founded by Orla McKeating, a single mother who recognised a significant lack of representation in the books she read to her bi-racial son, Elliot. Orla's mission is to create a platform that amplifies voices, brigdes gaps and cultivates empathy. By using storytelling as a powerful educational tool, Orla aims to transform how children and educators engage with narratives that reflect the richness of our diverse society.

Still I Rise offers story sessions, workshops, and training that address critical issues often overlooked in traditional literature, such as race, neurodiversity, mental health, LGBTQ+ topics, diverse family structures, immmigration and more. Through these initiatives, Still I Rise fosters empathy and understanding among children and young people, ensuring they feel seen, heard, valued, and celebrated.

From a passion project where we met every week in Belfast, Northern Ireland to having delivered sessions to over 10,000 children and young people, stocking some of the most inclusive books in the world, she is delighted to now offer online workshops and a book club for grown ups! Orla is also a keynote speakers specialising in Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Privilege & Race, Allyship & Advocacy and Stigma.

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.
